<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">How can you call this thread 'Top 5 movies OF ALL TIME?' and then name films all from within about the last 12 years? I don't mean to be rude, but sorry, that just demonstrates ignorance.Originally posted by o2pb:

Top 5 movies of all time?

3. Matrix Trilogy
4. Pulp Fiction

AND, as Despin says this has been done to death. I know it must be tempting if you're new here to ask the question but you could do a search on the board and get a shed load of very similarly titled threads.

it doesn't demonstrate ignorance.
it demonstrates a personal preference for the films listed, no matter when they were released.

4)The Royal Tenenbaums
5)The Graduate
Even though I was also berated by Chance1234 when I posted a similar topic about three years ago, I will answer here because I personally find this topic quite interesting.
Obviously these are as of now and would probably be rather different had I posted tommorrow.
1. Cinema Paradiso
2. Life Is Beautiful
3. Seven Samurai
4. Buffalo 66
5. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Yeah, I'm quite intrigued by people's answer to this question.
Mine are-
1. Taxi Driver
2. The Matrix
3. Donnie Darko
4. Amelie
5. Straw Dogs
Taxi Driver because there's nothing wrong with it, the script, directing and acting is flawless (even Cybill Sheperd is passable)
The Matrix just stunned me in a way I hadn't been stunned before. I still get goosebumps when Neo gives the defiant 'No' to the Agents at the end.
3. Donnie Darko just proved to me that great films are still being churned out. Gyllenhall is superb, and Richard Kelly is going to be damn sensational (if this movie is anything to go by)
I only saw Amelie on Christmas Day just gone, but I think it's brilliant. Jeunet's direction is class, the script is witty, most people know of my thoughts on Audrey Tautou, and I was particularly taken with Mathieu Kassovitz' presence as the charcter of Nino.
Straw Dogs is impeccable. Peckinpah was pretty much drunk all the time when he directed it supposedly, but Hoffman is superb. The rape scene's particularly hard to watch (and not just there for people to get off on) and the final, climatic stand-off is breathtaking. In my opinion, Hoffman's best role.
I normally skip these Top 5 or who would you work with threads but I've never repiled to one so here are mine, (in no real order)
The Lord of the rings Triligy
Donnie Darko
Gregorys Girl
The Breakfast Club
Fight Club
I can just watch any one of these over and over again and just never get bored of them
